A Compromising Counterfeit Christianity

A COMPROMISING COUNTERFEIT CHRISTIANITY

The world will tolerate religion as long as it bends to its moral standards. You can have your faith, they say, just don’t let it interfere with your politics, your morals, or your public life. But the moment a believer says, “Thus saith the Lord,” and refuses to bow, persecution begins.

The danger of our day is not open persecution but comfortable compromise. We have built a form of religion that costs nothing, offends no one, and accomplishes little.

Jesus warned in Luke 6:26,

“Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.”

The false prophets were always popular because they told people what they wanted to hear. The true prophets were always persecuted because they told people what they needed to hear. When the world applauds us, when sinners praise our sermons, when the ungodly feel no conviction under our witness — something is wrong.

Some believe peace is found in silence — but silence before evil is not peace, its sin. When the pulpits are quiet while sin marches boldly through the streets, when believers refuse to speak against wickedness for fear of losing followers or friends, that silence becomes consent. The world’s approval is a poor trade for God’s disapproval.

We have congregations filled with people who claim to live godly, yet the world loves them. They preach a soft gospel — a “love-only” message that condemns nothing and convicts no one. They have removed the offense of the cross and replaced it with comfort, entertainment, and social acceptance. But the gospel that does not offend sin cannot save sinners.
