Alone In The Garden

Alone in the Garden

In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus faced the darkest, scariest moment of His life. He carried the weight of the world’s sin, knowing the agony ahead. And yet, His closest friends—those He had poured His life into—were asleep. Not once, but three times, they failed to stay awake and support Him in His hour of need.

How often does life feel like that? When trials hit, when fear and sorrow overwhelm, sometimes no one is there. Your suffering doesn’t pause for others; they are “asleep,” unaware or distracted.

It used to be different. The church would reach out in practical ways—visiting the sick, sending cards, preparing meals, calling those in need. Today, far too often, the world sleeps when someone is hurting, just like Jesus’ friends in the garden.

But Gethsemane also teaches endurance and trust. Jesus prayed, surrendered, and carried on, even when completely alone. When life feels unbearable and no one is awake to help, remember: God is awake. God is listening. God is with you.

Even when the world sleeps, you are not abandoned.
