MOTIVE IS KEY

MOTIVE IS KEY

Many people enter a relationship with Christ with a focus on what He can do for them; healing, provision, comfort, or personal transformation. This is what it means to come to Christ for self. While this approach can bring temporary motivation and excitement, it is inherently unstable. When the blessings or changes do not come quickly or at all, the heart often grows disappointed, impatient, or disillusioned. This can lead to discouragement and, eventually, falling away from faith altogether.

In contrast, coming to Christ for Christ shifts the focus from personal gain to devotion and surrender. The believer seeks Him not primarily for what He can give, but because of who He is, holy, loving, sovereign, and worthy of worship. This perspective sustains the soul even when life is difficult, answers are delayed, or circumstances do not change. Joy and perseverance come not from fleeting experiences or immediate results but from a steadfast relationship with Christ Himself.

The difference is simple but profound: the first is conditional, rooted in feelings and outcomes; the second is unconditional, rooted in reverence and love for Christ. True, enduring faith arises when we come to Christ for Him, not merely for what He can do for us.
