WHY DOES WRONG FEEL SO RIGHT???

WHY DOES WRONG FEEL SO RIGHT???

I. The Great War: Flesh vs. Spirit

The Apostle Paul describes this in Galatians 5:17:

"For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other."

They are at odds because they have different goals. The flesh wants autonomy (I am my own god); the Spirit seeks alignment (God is my King).

• The flesh is like a spoiled child, it wants what it wants, and it wants it now.

II. How to Live for the Spirit

To "live for the Spirit" means to relocate the source of your life. It is moving from a "me centered" existence to a Christ centered one.

How do we do it?

We must engage in spiritual discipline. Just as an athlete trains their body to ignore the "feel good" of the couch for the glory of the finish line, we train our souls. We starve the flesh (fasting, silence, self denial) and feed the Spirit (Word, prayer, community).

When do we do it?

Every single morning. The war is renewed at dawn. You cannot win today's battle with yesterday's surrender. It is a moment by moment decision to ask, "Does this action nourish my soul or just tickle my skin?"

Why do we do it?

Because the "good feeling" of the flesh is a debt that eventually collects with interest, leading to death. The hard work of the Spirit pays dividends in peace, purpose, and eternal life.

III. Fight the Good Fight

We don't fight the flesh to earn God's love, we fight because we have it. We are no longer slaves to our impulses. When the "bad" starts feeling "good," remember that it is a shimmering mirage in a desert. True living water is found only in the Spirit.
